Open out the five napkins and place them in a circle on a table (diamond fashion) with the
2 straight sides touching
the sides of the napkins to the right and left. Place a bag of colors on each napkin.
Judge reads to the team
1. This is a two part problem about color. colors are not only pretty, they can be
useful for communication too. colors can be used to represent things or ideas, give
directions, or convey emotions and feelings.
2. In this problem, each team member will be given a sert of colors to use in creations
responses. You may not eat, alter or destroy the colors until the Judge gives permission
to do so!
3. In Part 1, each of the 5 team members will have 3 minutes to thinks and come up with as
many different ways of using color, color combinations or actual shapes to represent
something.
4. Your colors must stay on your own napkin but may go to the edge and combine with the
teammates colors to the right or left to create a 'teamed' response.
5. In Part 2, each team member will tell what each color or group of colors represents.
6. You may talk to each other at any time during Part 1
7. Colors may be exchanged one for one with other team members, but any colors exchanged
must be used in the solution
8. Scoring will be as follows:
a. 1 point for each response given
b. 3 points for each response combined with a bordering teammate
c. 1 bonus point for each exceptionally creative response
d. duplicate responses will not receive a score
Note: Small pieces of paper cut from glossy magazine ads or wrapping paper will work as a
color substitute for the M & M's,
but the "fun factor" is greatly reduced. You can use standard M & M's or
Skittles,
but they should be supplemented with additional different colors such as the magazine
cutouts.
This lets you add gold, silver, etc.
