Style Show
Given: A basic set of TOOBERS and ZOTS (foam building toy), 2 sheets paper and 2 pens or
pencils
Judge reads to team
1. This is a two part problem
2. In part 1, you will have 10 minutes to design and assemble your solution
3. In part 2, you will have 3 minutes to present your team's solution for scoring
4. You will be given a set of materials to use in designing, building and presenting your
solution.
The materials provided may be used for any purpose the team wishes, but may not be cut,
torn or damaged in any way.
5. In Part 1, the team will create an article of clothing, or an "ensemble" of
wearing apparel, which a team member will "model".
The team must also prepare an accompanying dialogue or explanation of the apparel to be
scored.
6. In Part 2, the team will present a Style show in which the clothing, the model and the
other participates will be judged.
7. Scoring will be as follows:
a. Creativity of the apparel created........1 to 10 points
b. Creativity and effectiveness of the Style Show......1 to 10 points
c. Team members participate in the show (2 points each).......2 to 10 points
d. How well the team worked together...1 to 10 points
Make a face and name an emotion that suits it
Make a structure as tall as possible with anything you have in your pockets
Given: Bag of mini-marshmallows, 15 large marshmallows, 20 toothpicks, 10 life saver
hard candies, 1 ramp 6" high 15" long
The team is to build a structure that will roll down the ramp.
Three points for each 1/2 inch past the end of the ramp that the vehicle rolls.
The vehicle must have some non-rolling component, and at least 2 wheels
Using two Styrofoam cups, newspaper, a roll of tape and an egg, build the highest structure you can that will rest an egg on top
Given; 15 mini-marshmallows and 2 toothpicks
These are magic toothpicks. Name as many things as you can that you can create or
do with these items
Using two chopsticks, tell and demonstrate as many ways as possible to use them
Given: One square of sandpaper, green construction paper, balsa wood, tape, bottoms of
two egg cartons each cut in half,
10 hard-boiled eggs and scissors (not to be part of the solution)
Build a tier stadium with "seats" for the fans (hard boiled eggs) of the
Little League World Series.
If the carton is used as a bast, it cannot be used as seats
Given: One straw, tape , a plastic spoon, an empty 2 liter bottle, strung, yardstick,
clothes pin, funnel, egg beater,
2 sheets of paper and 20 balloons.
You have been given 20 balloons. Your task is to blow up as many balloons as
possible using the most creative methods as possible.
You may not touch the balloons to your mouth.
You have 3 minutes to think and design and 3 minutes to blow up the balloons.
You cannot touch the balloons during think time.
Given 10 blue and 10 red packets of sugar, design the largest K Mart logo possible
Lines, Lines, Lines
Given; 7 rubber bands, one length of nylon string 16" long, 1 length of twine 3"
long, 3 address labels (or 6 computer labels),
10 paper clips, one pair of scissors, and one 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper.
Your problem is to make a continual line.
You may use all the materials and scissors provided.
The line will start at the indicated spot. You will have 5 minutes to think and execute
the problem.
At the end of 5 minutes a measurement will be taken of the continual line.
Scoring is as follows:
one point for each inch that the line measures
one point for every inch of length that the team creates out of the material provided.
Judges: Make a line for the team to start their "line" at. You will need two
retractable tape measures.
This problem is designed to allow the team members to explore the various uses of these
materials in any hands on problem
and is weighted to allow points for length with the materials versus the length their own
bodies may contribute to this problem.
Team members, materials, scissors and everything presented in the materials may be used.
Using masking tape on a tile floor or formica topped table, form shapes or messages that a blindfolded team member attempts to read by using their sense of touch
Given straws and clay, connect them to make the longest structure or pinwheel.
