Given: Three unopened tissue boxes of the same size, 6 - 8 1/2 x I 1
pieces paper , 4 plastic drinking straws, eight paper clips, 12" masking tape and a
pair of scissors. Using all or some of the materials given, build a structure as
high as possible.
The tissue boxes may not be cut or punctured. The time limit is 8 minutes. The final
structure must stand for at [east 5 seconds.
Given: Seven sheets of typing paper. Make a free standing structure as tall
as possible You receive 2 points for every inch in height.
Given: One action figure, one can - any kind, one ball string, 3 straws, one
foot of tape, 2 index cards and one spoon.
You (the action figure) are trapped inside a deep hole. You find the given materials,
build a vehicle and escape.
Given: Two pieces paper, 6 pieces thin spaghetti, 2" mashing tape, one
coffee canister, one billiard ball and an unlimited supply of nails. .
Your task is to create a structure using the paper, spaghetti and tape. This structure
must be able to support the coffee can and must be far enough off the ground that a
billiard ball can be rolled underreath the coffee canister. The billiard bail is to be
used for measuring purposes only. The team can gain points by putting nails into
tihe canister. The more nails that are put into the canister, the more points the team
gains.
You have just returned from a successsful mission to the planet DI'ner. You
discovered that the people there are illiterate, primitive and uncivilized.
Your mission is to return to the planet DI'ner to create a new civilization and
society.
Your problem is to select 5 things to take with you on your mission.
You will be given 10 minutes to discuss and select the five items. Your team will
then be given 3 minutes for each member to report on one item and why it was chosen.
Given: 50 rubber washers, 50 rigatoni, 50 small pretzel twists, 25 Q-Tips,
an envelope containing:1"x 1" piece clay, 2 drinking straws, 5 toothpicks,
1 mailing label, 1 sheet typing paper, 2 rubber bands, scissors.
In part one you will be given 4 minutes to discuss, develop a strategy and practice.
You may speak to each other during this time. In part two you will be given
3 minutes. You may not speak to each other at any time. Your
problem is to transport various items on Q-Tips to designated areas.
You may not touch the items with your hands. Also, during transportation,
you may not touch the Q-Tips with your hands.
You may not purposely alter the items. There will be three containers at various
locations. Each container will have a boundary. You may not cross (by stepping) into
the boundry area in order to place the items in the containers for points. If you
step over the boundry, no points will be given for those particular items.
Scoring is as follows - Container One: 3 points per item, Container Two: 6 points per
item,
Container Three: 9 points per item. Each used Q-Tip needsto be returned to the starting
area
and placed in the discard box. For each Q-Tip placed on the discard box you will receive
an additional point. You may not touch the Q-Tips with your hands in order to discard
them.
You will also receive 1-15 points for teamwork.
Judges: be sure to give 4 minutes for part one.After part one ends, make the team stop and
replace the items and QTips in the starting area. When the team is ready, begin part two.

This structure must be free standing and must be raised high enough to roil the billiard
ball under it the entire time. The team has five minutes to plan their structure and two
minutes to build it.
